Warren/Forest County Chapter of the PASR
Organization, Class of 2010
The local chapter of PASR is made up of approximately three-hundred school retirees who served as teachers, secretaries, school nurses, teaching aides, school administrators, bus drivers, custodians, etc. Although each chapter is independent, all chapters and members are associated with the 41,000 members statewide. One of the most active committees is the “Community Service” division which firmly believes that ‘active volunteer work in the communities which supported the employees when they were active’ is very important.
The Warren/Forest Chapter of PASR adopted the Hike/Bike Trail in 2005. Over twenty chapter members are volunteers who maintain the section from the city to the bridge over Jackson Run in North Warren. As a group they trim back the vegetation, pick up litter, remove fallen limbs, mow grass along both sides of the trail, etc. In addition, with the cooperation of the Warren and Forest Department of Transportation, the group upgrades the parking lot and has the trail power-broomed.
With a state grant in 2007, the Chapter owns and maintains a riding mower, weed eaters, leaf blowers, lopers, trimmers, etc to help maintain the trail. Since 2005, the Chapter participants have logged over 300 volunteer hours. Their reward for their work is the many thanks that from the general public and the satisfaction of giving back to the community.
