Pete Fanaritis
Sports Promoter, Class of 2008
- Pete was one of the founders of the Warren Sports Boosters and a major supporter of the semi-professional Warren Red Jackets football team. He also advocated for girls to be allowed to participate in the Warren Hot Stove Baseball Leagues during the 1950s.
- Became involved with the team in 1936, helping organize its business operations, manage finances, and ensure players were paid fairly. He also provided food and emotional support to players, acting as a father figure and mentor.
- After World War II interrupted the team's operations in 1941, Pete helped revive the team in 1946 by organizing meetings, recruiting players, and personally investing in new uniforms. The team finished the 1946 season with an 8–2–1 record and went undefeated in ten
games in 1947, competing for the Western Pennsylvania championship.
- Pete played an instrumental role in the construction of War Memorial Stadium. The Red Jackets were the last team to play at old Russell Field and the first to compete at the new stadium.
- Born in Thana, Greece, Pete became a Warren County resident for 46 years. He was known for quietly helping people in need, including providing free meals at his 24-hour restaurant. He reportedly gave away thousands of hot dogs and supported community celebrations, including one for Warren's undefeated 1955 Dragon football team.
- Pete served as a director of the Salvation Army and especially enjoyed helping young athletes and individuals seeking better opportunities.
