Larry Persing

Larry Persing dedicated more than 30 years to teaching and coaching in the Warren County School District, becoming one of the area’s most accomplished and influential coaches. He coached basketball at multiple levels and schools, including Beaty, Warren Area High School, Sheffield, and Youngsville. His career basketball coaching record was an impressive 351-170, a 67% winning percentage. His greatest achievement came in 1992, when he led Youngsville’s boys’ varsity team to a 29-2 record, winning both the TCAC League Championship and the District 10 Championship. Throughout his career, Persing also coached numerous girls’ teams, winning multiple league titles in basketball and softball, including four league championships with Beaty’s junior high girls.

Beyond coaching, Persing enjoyed a successful athletic career of his own. He played modified and fast-pitch softball for 35 years, accumulating more than 2,000 hits in 1,500 games. A former Edinboro University baseball player, he continued competing in adult baseball leagues, batting .487 in 2004 at age 57 and participating in the Roy Hobbs Over 55 World Series. He also served as a PIAA basketball and softball official for more than 20 years and became president of the Warren County Chapter of Officials. Through his work with Special Olympics, local recreation programs, and swimming teams, Persing demonstrated a lifelong commitment to athletics, community service, and developing young athletes.
