Tim Sabella was an exceptional multi-sport athlete who earned 14 varsity letters while attending Tidioute High School and Youngsville High School from 1992 to 1996. Through a cooperative athletic arrangement, he competed in basketball and baseball for Tidioute and cross-country and track and field for Youngsville. In cross-country, Sabella established himself as one of the region’s top runners, winning the 1994 Tri-County Athletic Conference (TCAC) individual championship and the 1995 District 10 individual championship. A four-year state qualifier, he also broke several course records and captured two major invitational victories. On the basketball court, Sabella scored 1,396 career points in four seasons at Tidioute and earned Defensive Player of the Year honors four consecutive years.

He helped lead the team to two District 10 playoff appearances, including a third-place finish in 1995, and earned TCAC First-Team honors that same year. His impact on the program was recognized with the retirement of his No. 20 jersey. Sabella also excelled in track and field, winning the 800- and 1,600-meter races at the 1995 TCAC Championships and receiving the Most Outstanding Track Athlete award at the county championships. In 1996, he captured both the TCAC and District 10 championships in the 800 meters. Despite balancing baseball with track and overcoming injuries, he also helped Tidioute’s baseball team reach the 1996 District 10 playoffs as a pitcher and outfielder.

Sabella continued his athletic career at Grove City College, where he earned eight additional varsity letters in cross-country and track and field. He received First-Team All-Conference honors in cross-country all four years, broke course records at both Geneva College and Washington & Jefferson, and was named the 2000 Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) cross-country champion and team MVP. In track and field, he won the PAC championship in the 1,500 meters in 1997.

Although recurring knee problems eventually forced him to stop running, Sabella remained active in athletics and competed in the South Carolina state racquetball finals in 2006. He has also continued sharing his love of sports by coaching his son’s youth soccer and T-ball teams. Sabella’s achievements across four sports, his championship performances at the high school and collegiate levels, and his continued involvement in youth athletics reflect a lasting commitment to competition, teamwork, and developing young athletes.
